A collection of some of the most iconic and beautiful pieces of couture and accessories once belonging to Audrey Hepburn were sold at auction recently. The collection dating from 1953 to the late 60’s included many items such as embellished evening gowns, tweed coats, hats and belts, there were also letters Audrey had wrote which included on about her proposed wedding to James Hanson, which she called off.

The collection of gowns, accessories and letters were donated from Tanja Star-Busmann a friend of Audrey’s from the age of 15. Over her career she sent her friend boxes filled with many pieces from her collection like haute-couture dresses, cocktail dresses, day suits and tweed jackets. Many of the outfits Audrey sent were often from the films she had starred in including a Givenchy haut couture dress worn by Audrey for a scene at the Ritz Hotel in the film How to Steal a Million which sold for £60,000.

Much of the collection were outfits in Audrey Hepburn’s signature style of pastel colours, ivory and black and notably were also of a very petit size that fitted her tiny frame.
