It’s true! Women’s fashion is going back to the 80’s…again.

Marc Jacobs reintroduced this fashion disaster once more at his show in New York. Luxury brand Louis Vuitton is even in on the act, showing its ‘Sac Banane’ in Paris. In fact, the catwalks for Spring/Summer 2010 were just bursting with bum bags of all shapes and sizes, sparking frenzy amongst fashion editors across the globe.

Popstrel du jour Rihanna sparked the craze by adorning hers on a night out at the Met Bar – wear yours on balmy summer evenings, clearly visible (covering it with a baggy t-shirt will only make you look 5 months pregnant). Expect to see them on the high street with New Look, Top Shop and even M&S bringing out their own versions in time for summer. Adorned with all manner of over-the-top embellishments including studs, jewels, and tassels, the choice is yours – there’ll be one to compliment every outfit!

On the plus side, you can amuse all your friends by calling it a ‘fanny pack’, keep your arms free thus avoiding pesky wine spillages, and you can hilariously masquerade as a market trader. Chaps – you don’t get away with it either – men’s fashion guru Gianfranco Ferre showcased his version, the ‘Marsupio’, in Milan only last week. Note: don’t be fooled; giving it a poncey name does not make it more wearable. Model the ‘tourist’ look by combining with a nice pair of tailored shorts (avoid the white socks and Jesus sandals at all costs though – it’s SO last year.)

If you can find a way to fit in your mobile phone, keys, lippy, money and all your other accoutrements then you’re a better woman than me. Throw me a Balenciaga tote every time – at least I’ll be keeping my chiropractor in business!
