The Metro Centre is a shopping centre that everyone has heard of and most people have been to.

In the 1970’s the lad that the Metro Centre was built on, was purchased for £100,000. In 1995  the Metro Centre was sold to Capital Shopping Centres for around £364m.

When we last went to the metro centre some areas of it are looking pretty dated, like the Mc Donald’s restaurant which looks like it’s been untouched since the late 1980’s. The Theme park which was a massive hit when opened in 1988, and was Europe’s largest enclosed theme park and cost £20m to construct and develop. Metroland had 13 rides of varying type from Dodgems, Swinging Ship and a big wheel.  Metroland was closed in April 2008 so that the Yellow corner could be re developed.

When you visit the metro centre allow a good day to walk round it without having to rush as some of the retail outlets are huge. The size of shops is reflected in the title that the Metro Centre holds which is largest Shopping Centre in Europe. Having around 342 spread over 168,900m2, there is even more retail opportunities in the retail park next door which houses large outlets of bigger names.

Theresmany big names that you’ll recognise that have shops in the Metro Centre such as Marks & Spencer, Modelzone, Lush, Boots, HMV, Argos And Debenhams. If your hungry then there are plenty of eateries from big name in the food game like,  McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Nando’s.
